The region of the Limousin is made up of three departments: The Corrèze (dept 19) , Creuse (Dept. 23) and Haute Vienne (Dept 87) which contains hills, gorges, and lush green meadows plus numerous ancient village churches, imposing abbeys and fortresses . The capital of the region is the historic city of Limoges which is the largest city in the region and owes it name to the enamel and fine china trade.
Its moorlands have made the Limousin a region of horse-breeders. The Anglo-Arab horse originated from the famous studs at Pompadour.The many lakes and rivers of the Limousin provide endless possibilities for canoeing, sailing, wind-surfing and other water sports.
